Large Oil on Canvas ‘Evening in the Woods’ by James Towers C.1907.

Description

Very large Edwardian landscape painting by the Liverpool artist James Towers (1853-1934). At dusk on a still evening by a lake in the woods a man and a donkey stand by a fire beside a tiny rough built shelter. In oil on canvas, signed in the lower right hand corner and presented in the original moulded and gilded frame and slip. Interestingly as well as being printed with the artist’s name and the title ‘Evening in the Woods’, the slip also record that the painting was hung in the 1907 Royal Academy exhibition. Whilst the canvas is in excellent condition the frame is damaged and missing areas of gilt and moulding.
