Description

C18th George III Chippendale period and design mahogany centre/pier table with marble top .
Of free-standing form , finished /polished on all sides , rectangular marble-topped mahogany-framed pier table .
Fitted with an apparently original 'Verde Antico' or 'Verde Mare' , highly-figured green and white marble slab top (1" thick).
Standing upon square-section legs with inside chamfer detail, the veneered friezes with heavier moulded lip beneath the top , and a beaded waist moulding .
The inner corners of the legs all fitted with a Chippendale "Gothic" design open shaped angular bracket 'spandrels'.
Excellent colour and patina to the timber and strong , rigid frame .
The underside fitted with a central support bearer for the marble top. Minor chips to bottom edges of marble top.
Classic , uncomplicated CI8th design and a useful scale period table which could be used for numerous purposes and settings.
