Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The grand size required a second handle to to the front to steady this hefty jug while pouring. The front has the original presentation shield which is lovely as it is dated 1882 for the First Prize in Hammer Throwing! The hinged lid opens to reveal an excellent condition ceramic liner, without damage.

A impressive size with the base diameter measuring 7 3/4" and spans 10 1/2" handle to front handle and towering 9 1/2" to top of finial. A fine example in excellent condition.
