Brian MacDonald Antique Rugs & Carpets has dated this piece to the 1870s.
The skirts are superbly decorated with bold and powerful stylised 'birds' - possibly the eagle.

In excellent condition, this rug would have been specifically made by the young bride for her wedding ceremony and possibly dates to around the middle 19th century.
