Description

Pieces like this are now rare amongst the Persian tribes, most having been disposed off years ago. At one time, however, they were highly prized possessions amongst the women who used such bags for containing mirrors, jewellery and coins. The face of the late 19th century bag has wonderful shades of vegetable-dye knotted woollen pile whereas the back of the bag is flat-woven in a design that appears to represent an 'eye' - the symbolic 'eye' for warding off the evil eye!
