Gents 9ct Gold Omega Bumper Automatic Watch

1920 - 1940
Description

A gents 9 carat gold Omega wrist watch from the 1940s.

The watch has a calibre 342 bumper automatic movement which is working nicely and the time keeping is good to within around one to two minutes or so over a 24 hour period. As with most early bumper automatic watches, you can feel the rotor ‘bumping’ which is quite normal. The movement is signed Omega and it has the serial number 11,420,307 which dates it back to the late 1940s.

The watch measures 31.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. It would suit a man with a slimmer wrist. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the case back for Birmingham 1949 with a case maker’s mark of ALD for the English watch case maker Aaron Dennison. The case is in good condition for its age with just the odd minor mark. The back of the watch has been engraved with the initials AF. The winding crown is a later non-Omega replacement.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial has feuille shaped hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There is a little discolouration to the dial.

A later black leather strap has been fitted.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
