Description

A superb burr walnut, walnut and parcel gilt Edwardian Period antique Carlton house desk. The upper section with a demi lune shaped superstructure veneered in beautifully figured burr walnut, with a carved gadrooned moulded edge and parcel gilt detail. With an arrangement of eight mahogany lined drawers with ivory turned drawer pulls and three cupboards. The lower section with a pull out walnut veneered writing surface with an inset green gilt and blind tooled leather, above an arrangement of one long central rectangular knee hole drawer flanked by two shorter rectangular drawers, each with cast brass handles. The whole supported on six carved Carolean style cabriole supports with parcel gilt detail and carved trailing harebells. Having acanthus carved feet united by a swept undertier. This desk can be used free standing has it has been finished all around. English circa 1900-1910
