Victorian Coromandel-wood Lady's Writing Box

Description

A good quality mid-Victorian LADY'S WRITING BOX in excellent original condition.

The box itself is veneered in well-figured coromandel-wood mounted with nickel-plated brass Gothic mounts. The twin lids open to reveal an interior remarkably original, with its blind-tooled and gilt burgundy velvet writing surface; twin ink bottles and lidded compartments with gilt brass 'Gothic' mounts.

The interior is veneered in mahogany, and all hinges, locks etc retain their original gilding. Retailed by J. Sampson of Coney Street, YORK. 14ins (35.5cms) wide.
