A Delightful Bronze Sculpture of a Huntsman

Description

GASTON d'ILLIERS: a splendid and compact late Victorian/Edwardian BRONZE SCULPTURE of a huntsman full of charm.

This lovely bronze depicts a Victorian gentleman out hunting, complete with side whiskers. He wears riding crop; stock and long hunting coat and carries a crop in his right hand, whilst his mount is shown striding out most realistically, its tail cropped and complete with the reins intact. Fully signed: 10ins wide; 9ins high (25.4 x 22.8cms)

** GASTON d'ILLIERS, French, was born in 1876 in Boulougne and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes from 1899. He favoured equestrian figures and groups and some of his later works were inspired by the First World War.
