Victorian Silver Pocket Watch, 1889

A Victorian silver pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working well and the time keeping is good to within around three minutes over 24 hours. The movement is marked with the word 'PROT' within a cross; this mark was registered by both Sign Freres/Eterna and Racine. The movement is protected by an inner hinged dust cover which has the engraved name, 'J J Findlay' and another name scratched underneath.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and both of the back covers have hallmarks for Chester 1889, with a maker's mark for the Coventry based watch case maker John Harris. The case has light surface marks but overall the condition is very nice for such an early piece.

The watch glass is in good order with just a little nibbling to the bevelled edge.

The white enamel dial has a faint hairline crack running vertically upto the number XII. Blued steel hands (initially set by way of the pin set mechanism), a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
