Description

Extraordinary late 19th.c. Arts & Crafts movement fire side coal box or purdonium c.1880. Of truncated pyramid form with a flat top (to make a seat perhaps) and hinged front. Decorated on each side with large applied repoussé work copper floral motifs depicting Tudor roses with heart shaped leaves. Also a lovely little copper handle with heart shaped terminals. The deliberately exposed rivets and dovetail joints at the side are a typical Arts and Crafts touch. With removable zinc liner for coal or kindling and original metal castors.

Dimensions: width 22", depth 19", height 15".
