Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1910s.
Chinoiserie was a decorative style in Western art, furniture, and architecture, especially in the 18th century, characterized by the use of Chinese motifs and techniques. This large cabinet is in wonderful original condition & all the original decoration is still intact. The decoration is stunning & was all hand painted on mahogany. Please enlarge all the images to really appreciate the fine details within this piece. The side display doors are serpentine shaped, the mahogany shelves inside have hand painted decoration on them & the original silk patterned fabric inside is still in good condition. Behind the middle door is plenty of storage space & the two shelves can be taken out. The cabinet sits on Queen Anne legs with ball & claw feet. All the locks have keys that work. This impressive cabinet was very well made & consequently very heavy. It came out of a private residence in London along with a matching 5 piece lounge suite, which we are in the process of recovering. This will be on the web site from about the 20th March. If anyone buys this piece before it goes on, they can have first option on the suite.
