A Rare Onlsow Pattern Spice Ladle by Hester Bateman.

A rare eighteenth century silver spice ladle in the sought after Onslow pattern. This sought after piece, rare in itself is made more desirable because it bears the maker's mark of Hester Bateman.

Spice ladles are scarce items of Georgian flatware, used for service spices directly to food and are companion pieces to the similarly sought after spice sifter spoons. This charming example has a deep rounded bowl and feather edge engraving to the shank. It bears only the Maker's mark and this particular one dates it to c1780.

Condition :- Very good with no dents or splits. The shank is slightly misshapen from use and the feather edge engraving fades a little towards the centre, both commensurate with age.
