A fine rosewood case with detailed brass inlays. Stepped side columns with brass cappings. Gothic tapered finials to the top with brass inlay. Brass side sound fretwork panels with silk backing. A brass fretted rear door with old clockmakers repair labels from Watford, North London. A fine brass bezel with fluted edging and convex glass. A convex painted dial signed 'Jas. Knowles, London' with 'moon' hands. A quality double fusee mechanism striking the hours on a gong. A clever rise and fall pendulum fine adjuster at the top of the dial. Pendulum lock for transportation.
James Knowles of London is recorded as working from 1832-1857.
