Atropos Antiques has dated this piece to the 1880s.
I have handled several cabinets over the decades bearing the tatchell trade plate and they have all been of a very high quality, this cabinet is no exception to that rule.

The cabinet is made entirely of mahogany and the colour and figuring is very fine indeed. The sixteen drawers are beautifully constructed and all run smoothly on hidden bearer runners. The drawer fascias are in 'fiddle back' and a single polished knob is fitted to each drawer front. A hidden universal cell surrounds the inner papered and corked drawer internals. Close fitting drop in glazed frames are present on all the drawers and all have the original glass to protect the drawer contents.

All the drawers have been re-papered with acid free top quality white cartridge paper and are clean and unused.the drawers are of imperial depth.
Original lock and key all working.
