A Rare Pair of Early George III Silver Stuffing Spoons.

A rare pair of silver stuffing or basting spoons dating from the 18th Century. These wonderful examples are bottom marked (hallmarks at bottom of shank near the bowl) which dates them from pre-1780. The hallmarks are four times the maker's mark, suggesting that they were not sent for Assay and making them very desirable and interesting to collectors.

To the top fronts they have matching, but somewhat faded armorials and the spoons are in Old English pattern.

Condition :- Excellent, with no dents or splits. One bowl has a slight flattening (approx 0.75cm), commensurate with age and use.

Hallmarks :- Four time maker's mark to each spoon. One one of the pair has one clear mark and three pinched marks, caused by the fact that the marks were struck before the spoon was fully finished.
