Antique English Engraved Preserve Jar by Mappin & Webb C.1890

Description

An absolutely charming late Victorian preserve jar, beautifully cut around the base and then wheel engraved featuring a Stork to the front and back walking in the rushes and other engraved decoration.

The folding handle and lid are made from silver plate and the underside of the lid signed by the top notch silversmith, Mappin & Webb of London and Sheffield. The top of the lid is beautifully engraved with a floral and foliate design.

My silversmith found me a period spoon to complete the offering. Excellent condition with the widest diameter of the glass measuring 3 1/2" standing 4 1/4" to rim of jar and 6 1/2" tall while the handle is upright.
