Description

This is indeed a thing of beauty. Extremely rare super king size early Winfield all brass bedstead c 1860, with taper tube posts and elaborate cast panels depicting nesting birds, foliage and flowers. All the fine cast detail is further enhanced by a process known as chasing. This was literally done by hand using tiny chisels to create the detailed markings. The brass cast joints have classic fleurs de lys detail. The castors are porcelain with brass carriers.Makers plate on cross iron.

This bed is in beautiful original condition. We have sympathetically cleaned the brass to maintain the natural patina.

Most of these high quality Winfield beds were exported as wedding gifts and found their way to far flung South America and Africa.

The bed is suitable for a standard super king size mattress 6' x 6'6" (180 cms x 200 cms)
