Japy Freres Classical Gilt Brass Clock. ~ French - Circa 1870 ~

Description

Japy Freres Classical Gilt Brass Clock.

~ French - Circa 1870 ~

~~ Excellent condition ~~

A very large and majestic clock by the famous clockmaker Japy Freres. It is of the highest quality, boldly modelled in brass with its original fine gilding in good, clean and bright condition. It is classical in style featuring a pair of lion pillars to the sides. Fret work to the front and sides allow the pendulum to be seen swinging; fret work is heavily modelled as foliage, masks and patterns and the inside rear of the case is lined with gilded brass. Top is domed and fretted and surmounted by a finial. Scroll feet support the heavy break front cushion base.

This is a far superior clock to most. It is of great size and weight and beautifully detailed and well finished.

Twelve individual enamel cartouches mark the hours on the heavy gilded brass dial.

The Japy Freres French movement is of the highest quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. It is fitted with rack striking and Brocot type pin-pallet escapement and is complete with original pendulum and bell. The Japy Freres mark is on the movement backplate. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some minor wear to the original gilding. Dial is also excellent with no chips or scratches to any of the cartouches.

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
