The line to the front is purely a grain mark not damage, mentioned and shown purely for accuracy.
The brass horseshoe is hinged and sprung to hold papers, letters and business cards in place. The brass is lucky enough to have an English design registration kite or diamond mark with the year letter Y for the year 1879, always highly desirable to have present on any English antique.
Excellent condition, measuring 4" x 4 1/2".
