Early C19th Regency Period Brass-inlaid Rosewood Sofa Table in the Manner of George Oakley.

19th century
Description

Early C19th Regency period brass-inlaid rosewood sofa table in the manner of George Oakley. An elegantly designed table in selected well-figured rosewood veneers with brass stringing and cut-brass inlays. Raised upon four hipped sabre-leg supports from a concave-shaped platform with 4 turned columnar supports . The brass castors of a distinctive oak-leaf and acorn design , probably alluding to its manufacture in the workshops of the celebrated London Regency-period cabinet-maker George Oakley (1760-1841). Established in Bond Street and patronised by the Prince Regent ,and later as King George IV, Oakley was re-knowned for his fashionable use of brass 'buhl'(sic)/marquetry type inlay and elements of Grecian antiquity style. The brass inlay to the top with 'fleur-de-lys' and 'clover-leaf' type motifs and scroll decoration. Of free-standing form, the front frieze fitted with 2 assymetrical mahogany-lined drawers with intricately brass-inlaid centre reserve panel , with 'mirrored' "dummy" arrangement to the reverse. The twin drop-flaps each supported on double shaped brass-inlaid folding 'fly' supports. A fine quality table of excellent rich colour and in original condition, has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops. No breaks ,repairs, warps or losses.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
