Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The box has some exquisite brass fittings, enhancing it's exquisite shape. The front has a large brass escutcheon which houses the working tasselled key.

The interior is totally original with a typically Regency blue coloured paper and velvet, the interior of the lid is hand-painted onto the velvet and surrounded by gold embossed paper. This can be opened to reveal a secret compartment where letters and papers would be kept safe. The box came to me as is, with all sorts of bits and bobs and are included. These include some period bone spools, a couple of thimbles, some old instruments etc.
Superb antique condition measuring 8 1/4" x 6 1/4" foot to foot x 3 3/4" tall.
