George IV Gillows Writing Table

19th century
Description

A fine Gillows Mahogany Writing table by renowned fine furniture makers Gillows, The rectangular reeded edged top with 3 quarter gallery rail, having an arrangement of 4 short and one long freeze drawer with concave apron, flanked by inset panels. Raised on a turned leg with ring turn details, retaining the original brass cup castors and turned knob handles. Wonderful colour and high quality Mahogany timber throughout. A superb example.

This table is signed in pencil to the underside of a drawer by William Swan, who is listed in the book by S. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840,

A similar Gillows table appears in the Gillows' Estimate Sketch Books, folio no. 3312, dated December 30, 1823.
