Regency Period Fitted Tortoiseshell Sewing Box

Description

A fine and rare early 19th century Regency period tortoiseshell SEWING BOX in splendid original condition.

The top is inlaid with a delightful panel of Mother-of-Pearl flowers and leaves, and opens to reveal the fitted interior with various items including:

a) Full set of six MOP cotton reels;

b) Ivory spools for thread;

c) MOP waxer;

d) MOP ruler and other tools;

e) hallmarked silver thimble;

f) Mother-of-Pearl needle case;

g) pair of MOP round boxes; winders etc.

To the base is a drawer with various other sewing items inside and it is raised on original turned ivory ball feet. Beautiful condition and quite large: 10ins (25.4cms) wide.
