Gents 9ct Gold Elgin Trench Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

An antique Elgin trench watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement which is signed Elgin, USA and it has the serial number 18,282,853 which dates it back to 1915.

The watch measures 32mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for Birmingham 1920. The movement was imported to the UK to be cased; the case has a maker's mark for the English watch case maker A L Dennison. The front of the case is in good condition; the hinged back has some unevenness but overall it is very acceptable for such an early piece.

The plastic lens is in good condition.

The watch has an enamel dial, signed Elgin. The dial has some hairline cracks although they are not too noticeable to the naked eye.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.
