Antique 1884 Silver Longines Fob Watch & Albertina

19th century
Description

An antique silver Longines fob watch and albertina.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around five minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed Longines, with the Longines logo on the regulator, and also Baume - Arthur Baume was an importer of watches and was the UK and Commonwealth agent for Longines. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 41mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London 1884 with the maker's mark for Arthur Baume. The watch has a pretty case with engine turned detail over the entire case (usually it is just on the case back), and decoration around the winding stem. There is some rubbing to the pattern, just through use, but overall the condition is very nice.

The watch glass has general light marks but is very acceptable.

The watch has an enamel dial which is in good condition. The hands are initially adjusted with the pin set mechanism.

The watch comes with a charming white metal albertina which measures 18cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. There are no hallmarks on the albertina but it has tested as being silver.
