Rare Antique Systeme Roskopf Sample Pocket Watch

An antique Systeme Roskopf pocket watch from Jules Russbach (the Systeme Roskopf name means that the methods used in the manufacture of the watch were similar to the actual Roskopf design). This particular watch is very rare because the case comprises three different metals, gun metal, gold plated and nickel which suggests it was used as either a salesman's or retailer's sample to show to potential customers.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is ticking away nicely (and loudly) and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement is stamped with the wording 'esercito e armata' (which translates as army and armed) - this was the mark used by Jules Russbach and it was registered in September 1900. The movement is protected by an inner cover which is beautifully detailed and includes a brief description of the movement.

The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case has some small marks and a little unevenness to the case back but overall the condition is good for an antique piece. The back of the watch also has the Jules Russbach 'esercito e armata' mark.

The lens has some surface marks from use but is very acceptable.

The signed enamel dial has sustained some damage at 7 o'clock and there are some faint hairline cracks. Beautiful ornate hands which are initially set with the pin-set mechanism.
