Gents Longines Wrist Watch, 1939

A gents late 1930s Longines wrist watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement, calibre 12.68, which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed Longines and it has the serial number 5,944,782 which dates it back to 1939. According to Longines' records, the watch was invoiced on 20 August 1940 to the company Ostersetzer, the Italian Longines agent at that time.

The watch measures 35mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs - this is a good size for a man's watch from this era as they tended to be on the small side. The case has minor marks but overall the condition is good such an early piece. The inside of the snap-on case back has the EFCo Longines mark (EFCo relates to the founder of Longines, Ernest Francillon).

The lens is in good condition.

The dial has the raised wings logo and is also signed Longines. It is in its original finish and there is freckling across the dial, and some marking but overall it has a charming vintage appeal.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.
