Swiss Walnut Abbatant

19th century
Description

A 19th Century Swiss figured walnut escritoire/ writing cabinet. Standing on bun shaped feet and a plinth base. This abbatant has 3 drawers with book matched figured walnut fronts and original escutcheons. Above is the cross banded fall which opens to reveal a well fitted interior consisting of 8 drawers, all inlaid with satin wood, boxwood and various stained woods. The double centre drawer slides out and reveals a secret compartment. Above the fall is another conforming drawer and an outgoing moulded cornice. The side stiles with well carved corbels and reeded detail. The back bears label and stencil:- J.S.? Luzern. P.V. and Lugano.

In good original condition with 1 or 2 signs of old shrinkage but nothing serious. Cleaned and waxed with original locks and keys.
