Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.

The top is inlaid with the original owner's plaque, engraved " Mrs. C.W. Hodson ". The front is inlaid with a shaped escutcheon which houses the working key. The lid opens to reveal a large interior, re-lined in a hand-marbled paper creating a fresh, clean finish; perfect for keeping papers, letters, photographs or indeed some larger pieces of jewellery or keepsakes.

Another sign of quality are all the interior edges finished in solid brass. There is a second key which is used to open the drawer below which retains the original very smart velvet and silk fitted jewelry tray; amazing condition considering it's nearly 200 years of age.
A magnificent large box in excellent condition measuring 13" x 10" x 7 1/4".
