An Oak Arts & Crafts Period Reclining Chair by Heals of London

1900 - 1920
Description

An Oak Arts & Crafts Period reclining armchair by Heals of London. The oak "ladder" back with a loose deep buttoned cushion and reclining to three different positions. Having open shaped arms and a wavy support rail after an original design by C.F.A. Voysey. With a generous deep padded seat, supported on square block supports united by H stretchers. Typical of the simplistic style that Voysey championed. This chair was made by Heals of London and is stamped Sesame lounge registered design 2305. English circa 1905

Dimensions: 46" high x 27" wide x 43" deep Full reclined (seat height 14")

Condition: This chair is is superb condition, colour and patination. The cushion and seat have been re-upholstered in a modern high quality linen.

Geometric design: Reclining Armchair, designed by Ambrose Heal for Heal & Son, English, c. 1905.

This reclining chair exhibits an emphasis on geometry, simplification and a form that comes from the vernacular. The designer was Ambrose Heal, who produced straightforward Arts and Crafts furniture and made archetypical examples of the Arts and Crafts movement and shows the influence of C.F.A Voysey.
