Lady's Antique Seth Thomas Hunter Pocket Watch

An elegant lady's antique full hunter pocket watch by Seth Thomas.

Between 1884 and 1915 Seth Thomas manufactured a line of jewelled pocket watches. Most of the tooling for the watch factory was built using the production facilities of the Seth Thomas clock factory (Seth Thomas was famous for his clock manufacturing corporation which was established in 1853).

This particular watch has a stem-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed Seth Thomas, Thomaston, Conn and it has the serial number 161004 which dates it back to 1889. The movement is protected by an inner hinged dust cover.

The watch measures 42mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the loop. The case is by Fahys - Joseph Fahys & Co. (Fahys Watch Case Company) was a watch case manufacturer, located in the Fahys Building, on 54 Maiden Lane, New York City, US. In the early 20th century, it was the largest manufacturer of watch cases and one of the largest manufacturers of silverware in the United States. This particular watch has the Montauk case which is gold filled. It is beautifully detailed on both the front and back.

The watch glass is in lovely condition.

The enamel dial, signed Peerless, has some faint hairline cracks. Delicate blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. The hands are initially set by pulling out the small lever next to number 4, adjusting the hands as necessary and then pushing the lever back in.
