Handsome Antique English Miniature Perfume Tantalus C.1890

Description

A fabulous and wonderful quality late Victorian perfume Tantalus, created in Victorian times to keep those expensive scents and colognes safe from the household staff. Of course they mimic the full sized Tantalus created to keep liquor safe in in the same way.

Made from solid English Oak, the mounts and fittings are all in silver plate. The caddy comes with the original Bramah lock and key, a top-notch lock used only on the best examples. The key is sprung so a gentle push and turn required, it is then that the front bar can be lowered to retrieve the three original cut crystal perfume bottles.

The cylindrical bottles are deeply cut in the ever-popular hobnail design and a fine star-cut base. All are in fabulous condition.

Dating to around 1890, this gem remains in superb condition. The footprints measures 10" x 4" and stands 10" to top of handle; each bottle stands 5 1/4" tall.
