Gents Ww1 1918 Silver Trench Watch

A charming WW1 gents silver trench watch.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two to three minutes over 24 hours.

The watch measures 32mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is sterling silver and there are hallmarks inside the back cover for London (import mark), 1918, with an importer's mark for George Stockwell. George Stockwell & Co were carriers and shipping agents who also handled customs clearance on behalf of their customers. From June 1907, they also acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which were then required to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK asssay office before being released for sale. This particular watch has a case which is in good condition for its age with just general surface marks and evidence of an earlier thread through strap.

The lens has some marks but is very acceptable.

The enamel dial has a very nice vintage look with a subsidiary seconds dial, outlined numbers and an outer minute track; the minute hand is a later replacement.

A new brown leather strap has been fitted.
