Unusual Antique English Preserve Jar - Apple, by Mappin & Webb

Description

A magnificent antique English preserve serving jar made from silver plate and glass, most unusual and miraculously retaining it's original shaped glass jar which fits inside it's circular frame.

Beautifully engineered with the hinged lid fitting on top of the glass, the apple stalk lifted to get to the jar. There is an original preserve spoon, with a leaf shaped terminal which is gilded. The stand is too shaped in the form of a large leaf standing on three ball feet.

The underside is marked for the top-notch silversmith, Mappin & Webb of London. Dating to around 1900, this gem remains in superb condition. 8 1/2" x 5 3/4" x 4 3/4" to top of stalk.
