A Rare Mahogany Inlaid Late Victorian Period Bedroom Suite

1900 - 1920
Description

A magnificent rare mahogany inlaid Late Victorian Period antique bedroom suite purchased from a Scottish Country house consisting of a mahogany inlaid Princess wardrobe, a dressing table, a double bed and a bedside cabinet. The wardrobe having a domed dentil moulded cornice profusely inlaid with urn, swag, ribbon marquetry and pen-work detail. The upper central section again with stunning quality inlaid panelled doors opening to reveal mahogany shelves and slides. The open central section having unusual bevelled mirrored "secret" doors which operate on a spring mechanism, opening to reveal a velvet lined hidden jewellery cabinet and having three mahogany lined storage drawers again with Classical inlaid detail. The shaped bevelled mirrored end doors opening to reveal shelved and hanging interiors, the right hand section also having a large bonnet drawer. The accompanying dressing table having an oval adjustable mirrored back supported on beautifully inlaid mahogany supports with turned Adam style finials. The serpentine shaped solid mahogany top above three further mahogany lined drawers, raised on square tapering supports with spade feet and brass and porcelain castors united by a serpentine shaped solid mahogany under tier. The bedside cabinet having a solid mahogany top and shaped galleried back with a marquetry inlaid panelled door, opening to reveal a shelved interior and raised on square tapering supports with spade feet. The double bed once more profusely inlaid with stunning marquetry and penwork inlaid urns, swags and ribbons. The headboard with a domed and dentil moulded cornice, the footboard having an acanthus carved crest and also beautifully inlaid with exotic woods in the Classical style. Almost certainly commissioned by the owners of Seggie House although un-marked was almost certainly made by one of the premier cabinet makers of the time such as Gillows, Maple & Co or Shoolbred of London. English circa 1890-1900

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
