Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The frame is mahogany, with some lovely neoclassical mouldings & sabre legs. Please enlarge all the images to appreciate this piece. We bought this item over from Sweden, so I presume it's Swedish. It has been fully restored, polished & re-upholstered in a Swedish Linen fabric. The back does look a bit rough, but at least you can see it's original from that view. They normally sit against a wall, but I suppose one could have the back covered in fabric so it could sit away from the wall.
