Alfred Charles Havell
British 1856-1928

For some years he is recorded as living at the same address as his father but later moved to various other London addresses. He died on March 13 th of pneumonia at 116 King Henry’s Henry’s Road, South Hampstead. On of the witnesses on the proving of the will was Mr. George Poole Fores, head of the Fores Gallery for whom Havell had worked for may years in the studio over Fores Shop in Piccadilly and it is said one could hardly see across the room for pipe smoke!

Havell painted many fine racehorse portraits of which a large number were engraved. He was also a good human portraitist. Several sets o hunting prints were produced after his work He also made many illustriaons for Fores’s books.
