Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1880s.
When putting these together, I have wrapped the pin (this is critical to put these scales together) and labelled it in the drawer .. see the photographs to see how this pin just slots in the top and secures the scales. The balance is "Class B" and "To Weigh 5 OZs"
The set comes complete with the most unusual original polished brass apothecary weights, ones shaped as numbers I have never seen ever before, so a very special set. The two brass pans when resting sit on the top of the Mahogany base and when needed the lever in the centre is pushed down to allow the scales to do their job.
Dating to the Victorian era, a wonderful showy piece as a medical related gift, it would be perfect on a desk. Excellent condition, standing a total of 14" tall; the base measuring 10 1/4" x 5 1/4". All the brass has been professionally polished to gleam.
