The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this piece to the 1920s.
The movement is stamped 'ref 998' and 'pat appl for', and it is protected by an inner dust cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the loop. The case is the Empress model by the American Watch Case Co, based in Toronto. The back of the watch has some indentations but overall the condition is acceptable for a 1920s piece. The small lens on the front of the case is a plastic replacement. The inner lens is glass and it is in good condition with just a short 2mm scratch.

The enamel dial looks good to the naked eye; there are a couple of very faint hairline cracks which are visible through a magnifying loupe. The watch has the original blued steel hands, with the special design so that the time can be read through the outer small lens. Subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
