John Howkins Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The drop in seats rest inside the very unusual convex shaped front rails and concave side rails (an unusual and expensive feature). The front legs with wonderful leaf and foliage carved knees and terminating with claw and ball feet. The elbow chairs have well shaped arms with subtle carved decoration and unusually have original sunken brass castors. Very good quality mahogany used in the making of this fine set of dining chairs and the condition is excellent. The drop in seats are covered in black calico and would need a suitable new covering.
