1950s J W Benson Tropical Wrist Watch

1940 - 1960
Description

A 1950s gents Smiths Tropical wrist watch originally retailed by J W Benson.

The watch has a hand-winding movement, with 16 jewels, which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two to three minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed J W Benson, London, and it is covered by a retention ring.

The watch measures 33mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is the Aquatite model from the English watch case makers Dennison. The main body of the case is plated and there is some wear and marking but it is very acceptable for a 1950s piece. There are some scratches to the back of the watch.

The lens is in good condition.

The dial is signed J W Benson, London, Tropical, Made in England. It has a nicely aged dial and overall it has a super vintage look.

A new brown leather strap has been fitted.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
