Unusual English Victorian Biscuit Barrel or Box C.1890

Description

A fabulous and very large biscuit box or barrel, hand blown with a polished pontil mark on the underside.

The glass is finished with an engraved design to emulate wood grain, the first I have see with this wonderful decoration. The glass is then engraved to clear create a proper coopered barrel.

The collar and domed hinged lid is silver plated, and is not marked by the makers.

A truly wonderful gem in superb, undamaged condition dating to the late Victorian era, around 1890. Superb quality.

The base diameter measures 4 1/2"; the widest point having a diameter measuring approximately 6"; standing 7" tall.
