Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The beautiful polished honey oak case is finely carved in the Gothic style with a castellated pediment; carved roundels to the canted trunk and heraldic shields to the lower part of the trunk and the cistern cover.
It is in perfect working order and is complete with its two original keys. Signed to the register plates: Tisley & Spiller*, 172, Brompton Road, (London).

Although references to Tisley & Spiller are rare, it is known that they were Opticians and instrument makers. They lent various instruments to the South Kensington Musueum (now the V & A) and an ozone generator can be found in the Hunterian Museum at the University of Glasgow.
