Unusual Antique English Letter Rack or Holder C.1890

Description

A wonderful, very useful antique English Oak and Brass Letter caddy, made to hang on the wall from the solid brass "Letters" mount to the top. The back of this brass mount is signed by the well renowned manufacturer, William Tonk & Co. of Birmingham, England.

The backing is made from a single piece of solid English Oak with a lovely natural waxed patina.

The shape of this piece is most unusual resembling a train luggage rack, the solid cast sides particularly which are used to support the brass mesh front, which is all intact and undamaged.

Dating to the Victorian era, around 1880 / 1890, it remains in superb condition. The Oak backing measures 10" x 6 1/2"; once the top brass mount is included it measures 8 1/4" tall x 3 3/4" deep; the opening of the mesh letter holder measures 8 1/2" wide.
