Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
It's in very good original condition. The wood is Kingwood, which has a lovely grain & pattern running through the drawer fronts & even through the drawer dividers. There are some fine inlays on this piece too. The original mounts, handles & escutcheons are all gilt bronze. The front is serpentine shaped & it sits on slender shaped feet. The drawer bottoms are pine & so is the back. The top two drawers are joined & pull down to reveal a secretaire inside, with a mirrored back. Actually, the more I think about it, I really think it was designed as a dressing chest, because of the mirror inside & also the height pull down bit. This piece has a wonderful colour & pattern to the wood all over & has loads of character too.
