~ French - Circa 1880 ~
~~ Excellent condition ~~
A stunning gilt brass antique French clock set in excellent condition. Style is French Gothic, clock case has an arched top supported by spiral turned columns.
Beneath the dial there is a goddess mask and to the shoulders of the case are grotesque masks.

Candelabra have conforming bases, above which are ovoid urns on which are the candelabra. Candelabra arms mirror the scrolling sea creature detail of the bases and have very nicely fretted drip pans and bud shaped sconces. Detailing of the set is fine and well finished and the original gilding is in very good, clean and bright condition.

Dial is a particularly nice example, heavy gilt brass mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches which are an unusual shape. Bezel is heavy with a molded rim fitted with convex beveled glass.
Back door of the clock is glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is of high quality, it runs for 8 days and strikes half hourly on a bell. It has been fully overhauled by our clock maker who has replaced the missing pendulum. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with good original gilding which is bright and clean with just some wear or tarnish. The arms of the candelabra are slightly distorted. The dial is also in good condition, no damage to the enamel cartouches.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
A beautiful clock set to add to your collection!
