John Berney Crome- Norwich School Oil on Canvass

Description

A mid period oil on canvass by the eldest son of the founder of the Norwich School of painting John Crome.

John Berney worked closely with his father and carried on the traditions of painting pastoral Norfolk scenes concentrating on the light and trees.

The Norwich School split in to two factions and it was John Berney as its president that managed to restore the group to a single entity with a single exhibition focus.

The painting has a timber wagon trundling along a track. The painting shows very well the technique used by Crome of placing highlights on tree trunks using the end of his brush, a characteristic of his work. The painting relates to the picture 'The Timber Wimb' on page 33 of Harold Day's book the Norwich School.

The painting measures 12x14 inches and 15.5x 17.5 including the frame.

In excellent condition relined and cleaned.
