Superb Fitted Box of Drawing Instruments

1900 - 1920
Description

A particularly fine quality and beautifully fitted BOX OF DRAWING INSTRUMENTS.

The nickel-plated brass bound rosewood box opens to reveal the first tray, comprehensively fitted with various brass instruments and ivory-handled pens & pencils etc. Below, the second tray has a set of FOUR beautiful engraved ivory rulers, all signed by the makers (J. Dobson of High Holborn, LONDON), plus other smaller rules; pens, pencils etc..

This tray also lifts out to reveal a lower compartment of curves; parallel ruler etc., plus (empty) compartments for watercolour brickettes. Larger than usual: 13.5ins x 6.5ins (34 x 16.5cms). Probably late 19th/early 20th century.
