Early 19th Century Fabulously Carved Bench

19th century
Description

For sale is an extremely high quality carved bench. The top of the bench has two ornately carved griffins, one on either side. Between the griffins is an intricately carved mask with fruit on either side. The arms of the bench are heavily carved lions. Between the lions, on the back of the bench, there are three elaborately carved panels portraying dolphins and the centre panel displays two nicely carved dragons. The bench has a rising seat, which when opened displays ample storage space. Below the seat the bench has another three carved panels, two with faces and one florally carved in the centre, on either side of these three panels is another carving of a lions head each decorated with fruit below. This is a superb piece, it is simply one of the best examples of elaborate hand carving and craftsmanship of the 19th century. It would be very difficult to find a much better example. For this piece to be truly appreciated the item must be viewed in person, also many additional photos are available upon request.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
